Hibberdene Happenings: Busy weekend ahead for Hibberdene

With so many events planned for the weekend, there is bound to be something for everyone.

MOPPING up operations continue in Hibberdene after the Easter weekend deluge, albeit not on such a large scale as previously. There is, however, much damage still to be repaired and much work to be done. Many roads are still in a state of disrepair and in urgent need of attention.

Early bird breakfast

The Methodist men’s breakfast takes place this Saturday, June 1, at the church. The cost has been increased from R20 to R30, which remains a bargain for a delicious meal and the fellowship and fun that accompanies it. Men wishing to attend are requested to contact Debbie at the church office at 039 6992948 before tomorrow (Thursday, May 30). Men of all denominations are most welcome to attend and to take a friend or two with them.

Popular market

While the menfolk attend the breakfast, the women are urged to head off to Mtwalume to attend the flea and craft market on the same day from 9am onwards. Head to the grassy area adjoining the pool at Koelwaters Resort for a morning of fun activities, feasting and bargains galore while listening to Andy Els and his special brand of music. Contact Sue at 082 4002616 to arrange for a table, which is free of charge.

Camp reminder

Teenagers and parents – have you contacted Ken Walker yet in connection with the Lower South Coast Methodist Church’s Winter Camp?

Scheduled for July 4 to 7, the camp will be held near Oribi Gorge and will be led by a team of experienced leaders.

The camp is very reasonably priced and is open to teenagers of all denominations from grades 8 to 12. Ken may be reached at 082 2370656 or alternatively contact Debbie at 039 6992948 at the church office.

Fond farewell

Reverend Martin Beukes delivers his final message in Hibberdene on Sunday, June 16, before he and his wife Nicole leave for the United Kingdom. The service will start at 2pm instead of the usual 8.30am and all congregants are urged to attend in order to bid farewell to the couple, who has served the congregation for the past three and a half years.

Keith pops in

A welcome visitor to Hibberdene over the past weekend was former resident Keith Vetter, now living in Durban. Whilst watching rugby last Saturday, Keith had poignant, but fond memories of how he and the late ‘Boutes’ Botha used to have really hectic arguments whenever the Cell-C Sharks played against the Lions.

Champagne days

Your scribe has only one anniversary on record this week – her own, as she and Steve will be married for 55 years tomorrow, (30th). Birthday wishes go to Charmagne Howe, Elsa Sassenberg and Brentin Wandrag (29th), Yvonne van Zyl (31st) and Bez Bezuidenhout (June 1).

Remember to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
