Sustainable energy was the focus on Africa Day
The event took place as part of AfrikaVuka, a campaign that promotes sustainable energy in Africa, raising awareness about the dangers of fossil fuels and supporting clean energy initiatives
South Coast environmentalists got together in Shelly Beach on Africa Day recently to share ideas and information on local “green services’.

They introduced various products and services and looked at ways to work together to help the community move towards a cleaner, healthier, more equitable and sustainable future.

The event took place as part of AfrikaVuka, a campaign that promotes sustainable energy in Africa, raising awareness about the dangers of fossil fuels and supporting clean energy initiatives. Over 50 AfrikaVuka activities took place throughout Africa on the day, and five of these were in South Africa.

Various solar energy options, including lighting systems, solar cookers and systems that make use of combined technologies. there was also information on recycling products, green building, training and workshopping materials and insights into sustainable eating were presented.

The Green Net, a networking group for sustainability practitioners, was introduced on the day. This group provides information about sustainable lifestyle choices, offering talks and workshops to community groups, corporates and business sectors across the region.
