The Herald asked acting head of operations at Kwa-Zulu Natal Sharks Board, Greg Thompson if there was any news on the ‘The Greatest Shoal On Earth’.

Mr Thompson reported yesterday (Tuesday) that there were reports of sardine activity in the Hole in the Wall/Coffee Bay area of the Transkei.

The area north of that to Port St Johns has been fairly quiet with sporadic activity which we feel could be bait fish rather that sardines. There are two days of south westerly winds due this week so hopefully things will start moving after that – Greg Thompson

Last year saw a bumper sardine run with locals and visitors seeing witnessing the large shoals being chased by sharks, dolphins, gamefish and birds.
