Pedestrian struck by bakkie near Umzinto Primary

The pedestrian suffered serious head and leg injuries and was treated by paramedics before being taken to GJ Crookes Hospital.

A pedestrian who was crossing the road was knocked down by a bakkie on Thursday, May 30.

The bakkie was passing a stationary truck near Umzinto Primary in Nelson Mandela Drive when the accident occurred.

“The pedestrian suffered serious head and leg injuries and was treated by paramedics before being taken to GJ Crookes Hospital,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.

The driver of the bakkie was issued with a summons for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence and for driving an unlicensed motor vehicle.

His bakkie was also impounded by Umdoni Traffic and Policing because it was not in a road worthy condition.

A case of reckless and/or negligent driving is being investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Brian Khoza of the Umzinto Saps.
