Tweni Talk: Double celebration for newly-weds Steve (83) and Kelly (91)
Steve bought a house and presented it to Kelly at their fairy tale wedding as a birthday gift. Kelly’s birthday is on May 16 and the wedding took place on the 17th.
Pauline and Kevin McGovern celebrated 35 years of wedded bliss on June 9 and are still very much in love. Steve Burger and Kelly Morris recently tied the knot – after they met, they decided they were meant to be. Steve wanted to marry rather than just live with his sweetheart, so with the families’ blessings, Steve bought a house and presented it to Kelly at their fairy tale wedding as a birthday gift. Kelly’s birthday is on May 16 and the wedding took place on the 17th.

Never too late
The moral of the story is – never give up on your dreams or feel life has passed you by. The amazing thing is that Steve and Kelly are not teenagers – they wear their ages proudly. Kelly is 91 and Steve is 83 and although it’s unlikely they will celebrate a 35th anniversary, they will be making every moment of their life together count. The couple is wished lots of happiness.
The 2019 Comrades Marathon has come and gone. Roz Lennon is very proud of 60-year old husband Gary, who finished his 13th run. Pat de Korte is simply bursting with pride – her daughter Deborah Horn-Botha (53) completed her tenth run. Kim Jones reports that Zwelitsha Tiger Gono from South Coast Striders completed his 42nd marathon and he is also over 60. Gail Sutton congratulates all runners – they are an inspiration to all.
Unbelievable experience
Extremely talented and likeable local Hawkin Hansen made a trip to Durban after being invited to play the pipe organ at Emmanuel Cathedral recently. What an amazing experience it was. Hawkin says it is by far the biggest and most responsive pipe organ he has ever played and the experience was out of this world. He is grateful to the music director for affording him the opportunity.
Sad tidings
Very well-known Tweni community member Pam Lind died unexpectedly last Thursday (6th). Sincerest condolences to Bryan and Jane, family and friends.
Good news
Barry Smith spent a week in hospital, but is back home and making a steady recovery.
Bear in mind
Thanks to security companies for responding to WhatsApp posts, but please remember it is very expensive to patrol and security companies are really only obligated to paying clients registered with them. Keep reporting any suspicious behaviour though- it may stop a crime.
Luck of the draw
Lyn Curnow might have set a record with the renewal of her driver’s licence. She went to Umzinto and after many trips and phone calls, 362 days later, it has arrived and is ready for collection. She applied on June 13, 2018. It seems to be the luck of the draw because Sandy Danckwertz waited 11 months, but Suhail Peerbhay waited a mere two months.
Thanks, Bradley
Jenny Ravenscroft had the misfortune of finding her car had a flat tyre at Shelly Centre last Saturday. This is every girl’s worst nightmare, but she was thankful for the kindness of Bradley Getz, who came to her rescue and changed the wheel in no time.
Three cheers
Happy birthday to Mariann Calder (June 13th), Karina Westerman (15th), Liz Morris and Danny Roos (turns 90) on June 17, and Roland Apostolides (18th).
No funds
Glenda Schutgens and your scribe drove around Tweni looking at the shocking state of the roads after the recent floods.

Apparently Ray Nkonyeni Municipality is still waiting for government funds to assist affected communities.
All news to Leila.
