Bobbin lace artists win big at agricultural show

Ms Bridger said these awards had boosted the confidence of the group.

Bobbin lace artists belonging to the South Coast Lace Group walked off with several awards at the Royal Agricultural Show in Pietermaritzburg this year.

Lulu Bridger (82) the teacher of the group, won first prize for her bookmark and received a highly commended for a 100-year-old bell pull.

Rosemarie van der Merwe won first prizes for her cross and multiple cross, while Jenny Hutchinson took first prize for her candle holder, third prize for her Chinese fan and a second and third prize for her table cloths.

Ms Bridger said these awards had boosted the confidence of the group. “We would like to thank the organisers of the Royal Agricultural Show for hosting us and providing an opportunity to showcase our artwork. If anyone wants to join our group, we meet once a week on a Thursday and strongly encourage younger people to join,” said Ms Bridger.
