Hibberdene Happenings: Judy and Norman celebrate 50 golden years

Their three children and seven grandchildren attended the milestone celebration.

JUDY and Norman Aiston from Mtwalume were married at St Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Umbilo, Durban, on June 28, 1969. They celebrated their golden (50th) wedding anniversary with family and friends at a special lunch held at Hibberdene Bowling Club last Saturday (29th).

Back on track

Lions’ eye clinics have resumed and the next one will be held on July 17, from noon. There is quite a backlog of patients from cancelled clinics, so unfortunately not too many vacancies are available at present.

Should you have made an appointment and find that you cannot honour it when the time comes, it would be much appreciated if you could please notify your scribe so that the vacancy can be filled by someone on the waiting list. Bookings can be made at 073 1653961.

Annual gathering

Remember the Classic Car Show at Scottburgh High next Sunday from 9am.  A huge crowd usually attends, so get your seats early and settle in for a day of fun, food and entertainment.

Help Sue

The popular Mtwalume flea and craft market at Koelwaters Resort is set for Saturday, July 27, from 9am. Organiser Sue Paterson appeals for anyone to let her know if there are any baby or small children orphanages in the Mtwalume area that could benefit from this year’s Christmas cheer project. Please contact her at 082 4002616 or 039 9721425.

Camp commences

Attending teenagers are beside themselves with excitement for the Winter Bible Camp at Oribi this week. Almost 50 young people will be at this year’s camp and all who have helped with transport, donations and other organisational items are sincerely thanked. Hopefully the event will be a happy, memorable one.

Early birds

The Methodist Church men’s breakfast is scheduled to take place this Saturday (July 6), at 7am. ‘Faith, food and fellowship’ is the motto of this little group of men and they certainly live up to it by providing a first-class meal on the first Saturday of every month.

Entrance is R30 and all men are most welcome. Contact Debbie at 039 6992948 or Louis at 039 6992610 before July 4 to confirm attendance.

Grateful thanks

The church thanks everyone who contributed or supported the fund-raising jumble sale last Saturday. The sale raised more than R5 500.

All is well

News received is that Reverend Martin Beukes, Nicole and their two dogs have arrived safely in England and are settling into their new home. Both Phyllis Michaelis and Jill Whitmore have returned from overseas trips after having a wonderful time. Phyllis even managed to get sunburnt in Ireland.

Sad tidings

Felicity Howe died recently after being ill for quite some time. She was well-known on the South Coast and a bowler of note and will be sadly missed. Sympathy goes to Greer and Doug Henderson, family and her many friends.
