Morning market raises funds to help the frail

The Comfort Fund assists citizens in frail care with their daily routines.

Members of the Comfort Fund at Margate Retirement Village (MRV) hosted a morning market at the Ronnie Baker hall last Saturday. The Comfort Fund was created to assist senior residents in frail care who have outlived their savings.

There were plenty of scrumptious goodies on sale such as breyani, curry and rice, Frankfurter rolls, vetkoek and delectable cakes. The various stalls proved to be a hit with visitors and sold goodies ranging from plants and needlework to jewellery and toys. The white elephant stall as always garnered much attention.

The organiser of the morning market, Sherle van der Westhuizen, a resident at MRV, said some senior citizens in frail care required assistance with their daily routines but were not in a financial position to do so. “These activities are often an essential part of an elderly person’s life and it is essential for them to be able to maintain them, that is where the money generated by the Comfort Fund comes in,” she explained.
