Hibberdene Happenings: Villagers rally for the less fortunate
The Lions are always in need of warm clothing, which may be dropped off at the clinic or collected.
MTWALUME’S flea and craft market was not as well attended as normal, no doubt due to the coverage of the Springbok/Wallabiy rugby match happening at the same time. Those who attended, however, enjoyed themselves immensely. All collected clothes and blankets were handed to a family in need and the camp cot will be handed to a worthy recipient at a later date.

Hibberdene Methodist Church’s Youth Group sincerely thanks all who contributed to the success of the Oribi Bible Camp earlier this month. Grateful thanks to all who came forward with cash donations, provided transport and administrative support. The leadership team, international sponsors, women who baked and cooked, and all helpers and volunteers are also wholeheartedly thanked.
The church’s ‘Knits and Natters’ group has been very active. They recently donated 30 pairs of bed-socks and three knitted/crocheted blankets to Cansa and an additional blanket for a member of the congregation. Beautiful knitted beanies were also sold to augment church funds.

Book for breakfast
Eric Mack will be guest speaker at the next Methodist men’s breakfast this Saturday, August 3, at 7am. For only R30, men of all denominations can share in the faith, food and fellowship. And take a friend or two along to share in the experience. Contact Louis at 039 6992610 or Christine at the church office at 039 6992948 before August 1 to confirm your attendance.
Lend a hand
Charitable organisations are on the lookout for items of winter warmth, which can help alleviate the suffering of those less fortunate during the cold season. The Lions are always in need of warm clothing, which may be dropped off at the clinic or collected.
Contact Steve at 079 9259901 or Marie 082 2935757 if collection is required.
Clothing, bedding, kitchenware and towels are always welcome and will be gratefully received. The Methodists raised in excess of R6 000 at their jumble sale recently and are already collecting for the next one. Bric-a-brac, used clothes, and books will be most welcome.
Awesome achievement
Beth and Vaughan Friedenthal are extremely proud of their granddaughter Lucy Friedenthal (13), who is a member of ‘Uniswim’ swimming club in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. Lucy recently competed at a Level 3 gala and did extremely well by attaining seven bronze, one silver and one gold medal, as well as receiving the victrix ludorum trophy. Granny and grandpa are extremely proud and Lucy is heartily congratulated on this sterling performance.
Celebrating birthdays this week are Bessie van Rensburg (July 31st), Klasie van Staden and John Howe (August 2) and Doug Henderson (5th).
Don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
