Slip sliding away as Park Rynie road collapses
In its current condition, the road is also hazardous to motorists and poses a danger to pedestrians as it is not cordoned off.
A SECTION of Rocklyn Drive near School Circle in Park Rynie is collapsing as a result of the heavy rain in April this year.
“The municipality was contacted when this first happened, and have only once tried to fix this,” said one woman who is affected by the collapse.

It is believed that shortly after the damage occurred, workers cleared some of the soil which had fallen into the woman’s property and had removed parts of her fence which had been dislodged by the collapsing ground.
“I contacted the municipality two weeks ago to report it again, but was told that it will only be dealt with when money is available.
“Meanwhile, the ground continues to erode more and more each day, with soil constantly slipping onto my property.
“My three dogs are vicious and now they roam around freely because my gate has been destroyed,” she said.

In its current condition, the road was also hazardous to motorists and posed a danger to pedestrians as it was not cordoned off.
Of particular concern was the subsidence’s proximity to a school, with fears being voiced as to the safety of schoolchildren who may be tempted to explore the area before or after school.
Aside from the danger, water had been running freely from this section of road since April.
The woman’s water metre was also now exposed and, she said, no longer functioned properly.
Umdoni Municipality was contacted for comment but none had been received at the time of going to print.
