Ziphakamise to hold its annual general meeting

The Ugu District Municipality is a Presidential Node municipality, which means it falls under the areas, which were identified by the President as the poorest areas in South Africa.

Ziphakamise, a social and development organisation, was founded in 1976, at Nyandezulu near Murchison by Reverend John Harrison and his wife Heather. It is a non-profit organisation (NPO) and operates in both the Ugu district and Harry Gwala municipalities.

Translated from Zulu the name Ziphakamise means `lift yourself up’ and it started out as a casual response to child malnutrition in the area, providing soup and bread to these children.

The NPO’s central aim is to make a meaningful contribution towards social relief and empower communities through development and training.

The Ugu District Municipality is a Presidential Node municipality, which means it falls under the areas, which were identified by the President as the poorest areas in South Africa.

Thanks to support from individuals and businesses the organisation continues to work in the region.
