Brilliant academic and doctor Vinnie Krishnan is mourned
He completed his schooling at Port Shepstone Secondary school in 1990.
The late Vinaithan Krishnan (47) formerly from Oslo Beach died on August 13, 2019. Vinnie as he was popularly known, was born in Port Shepstone on July 9, 1972, and was the third and youngest child of the late James and Rosy Krishnan.

Vinnie completed his schooling at Port Shepstone Secondary and graduated later from the University of Natal with a degree in medicine. At the time of his death, Vinnie was a consultant in emergency medicine at the Letterkenny University Hospital and resided in Raphoe, County Donegal in Ireland.
Both in South Africa and abroad, Vinnie was not only well known for his outstanding academic career and his brilliance as a doctor, but also for the extraordinary individual that he was with his humility, gentleness and grace.
His kindness, infectious smile and compassionate spirit warmed the hearts of everyone he came into contact with.
In his primary school days which were at Port Shepstone Primary and Jai Hind, his achievements were truly remarkable. He came first in Class 1 and retained this position for the eleven remaining years of his schooling career. At Port Shepstone Secondary he was the head boy and took the Dux award during his matric year in 1990. He also obtained six distinctions in the senior certificate examinations.
In the words of his former teacher Sharry B Singh “he achieved the best ever results in matric at Port Shepstone Secondary – no one has come anywhere close in the nearly 30 years since this outstanding achievement.”
Vinnie was a remarkable speaker and his wit, brilliance and ability to deliver outstanding impromptu speeches began to reveal themselves from his very first foray into public speaking.
His participation in athletics and table tennis also brought him success, and he was the chess captain of the school.
Despite his impressive academic and extra-curricular achievements, Vinnie was one of the most humble and charming pupils to have passed through Port Shepstone Secondary.
He was awarded the prestigious Barlow Rand Bursary and went on to study medicine at the University of Natal
He leaves behind his wife Felicity, his two sons Feargal and Domhnall, his brother Darren and his sister Rosh.
