In 1996, Sheila Moodley opened her business with one block making machine and two workers. Today, 23 years later, the company employs 29 staff and produces up to 5000 blocks daily.
Despite the many obstacles, her faith has kept her strong. “You can do anything if you put your mind to it,” she says. “Through God anything is possible.”
“Due to the demand for river sand, I opened a new division, Grace Mining and Concrete Products and it is doing well.”
Sheila has two married children. She reads to relax, loves to watch TBN and her favourite holiday destination is New Zealand. The one thing she is passionate about is inspiring women to go into business for themselves.

Senzi Frey

Six years ago, together with her husband Michael, Senzi Frey was able to indulge in a dream of hers and opened Senzi’s Shisanyama in Margate. Three years later they opened Senzi’s Lounge and Senzi’s Exclusive VIP Lounge.
“It is the perfect place for a function or just to get together for a good meal. Our Exclusive VIP Lounge is luxurious and intimate,” said Senzi.
She is passionate about life, family, giving back and strongly believes in remaining humble and is grateful for the opportunities that have come her way.
One of the biggest obstacles is raising finance. She attributes the success of Senzi’s to hard work, determination and honesty. As a mother of one, she loves to relax at home with her family watching TV or reading.
Her ultimate holiday destination is Mauritius, with its beautiful beaches. Her advice to young entrepreneurs: “Never lose faith, follow your dreams and always remember that hard work and honesty will always pay off.”

Beaudene studied to be a health and skincare therapist, but two years ago she got a job at Shelly Centre as a marketing assistant, was promoted to coordinator position and in May this year, she took over as marketing manager.
“Myself and my assistant Keana van Staden are the on-site marketing team and we make sure Shelly Centre is your mall of choice”, she said. Beaudene sees obstacles as opportunities to grow.
“Every challenge teaches you something so we should all celebrate the ‘obstacles’ as they are the perfect platform to improve,” she said.
She is a local lass, who married her high school crush. “We have three children, one girl and two boys.
“I am passionate about life. You never know what tomorrow will bring so I try to make every day count.”
She dreams of one day simply relaxing on a beach in Mozambique sipping R&Rs out of a coconut shell!
Advice to other entrepreneurs? “Believe in yourself. Don’t sell yourself short and never give up.”

Suvanya Naidu
Suvanya Naidu Speech Therapy

Suvanya graduated as a speech-language therapist in 2005 and has worked predominantly at rehabilitation hospitals. She opened her private practice in January this year.
“I work with children who have pronunciation difficulties or delayed language, as well as school-based learning difficulties to improve auditory comprehension, spelling and reading. I also work with stroke patients to improve their speech, language, cognition and swallow functions. I find that people on the South Coast have been incredibly welcoming.”
In 2015, Suvanya completed a Master’s Degree in Global Health at Karolinska Institute in Sweden. “You’re never too old to learn something new,” she added. “I’m constantly learning and networking to improve the services I provide.”
To relax, Suvanya attends spiritual retreats to rejuvenate and replenish her spirit. “The Buddhist Retreat Centre in Ixopo is one place I never tire of visiting,” she said. Her advice to entrepreneurs? “There is enough work to go around. Develop a sense of camaraderie with businesses offering the same services as yours.”

To relax, I love watching Netflix and chilling with my fur-babies.”
