Fire reignites faith at Umzinto church
The fire was the second blow suffered by the church, the first being the death of church founder, Reverend Scallen Subramoney, in 2017.
‘GOD will see us through this’ was the firm belief of Bethel New Life Fellowship congregants when their place of worship was gutted by fire in November last year.
Although the Umzinto church was reduced to ash after the blaze, thought to have been caused by an electrical fault, no one was injured – in itself a minor miracle as it was in use at the time.

Lead pastor, Jared Subramoney explained that children and teachers were in the church rehearsing for the Christmas play when they noticed sparks coming from the electric distribution board.
The fire was the second blow suffered by the church, the first being the death of its founder, Reverend Scallen Subramoney, in 2017.
Undeterred, Pastor Subramoney quoted from 1 Samuel 7:12, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.

“In 2017 we lost the visionary, but not the vision. In 2018, we lost the building, but not the church.”
Ten months after the fire, Bethel New Life Fellowship last week officially reopened its reconditioned building.
“The congregation was privileged to walk into a upgraded facility.
“We are grateful that they stood together during those challenging months and persevered. It was certainly worth the wait as we witnessed their emotions when they stepped into the new building for first time,” said Pastor Subramoney.

He and his congregants are grateful to Umzinto Secondary for allowing them to worship at its premises over the past months.
“We are also thankful to the various churches who came to our assistance, those who helped with contributions and the building team, headed by Rennie Pillay who professionally rebuilt the building in less than two months.”
