Tweni Talk: Learning centre takes sports to the beach

The day was filled with fun and games.

CANDICE Taylor reports that the local school in Mgazi Road in Umtentweni, Hibiscus Learning Centre, has been up and running for three years already. They currently have 15 students and three teachers.

The centre held its annual sports day on Tweni beach last Saturday and enjoyed a day filled with fun and games for the children, staff, parents, family members and friends. A huge thank you goes to all sponsors for making the day possible.

Caring community

A very big thank you to organiser Bryan Schwegman, his family and Tweni Conservancy members for the clean-up at the beach car park behind Sayidi Farm stall. Brian and family have been clearing the bush and picking up litter for a while now and have made a huge difference to the area – it looks fantastic.

The downside is that vandalism and wanton destruction continues. Mike Davies reported that three windows were broken at the lifeguards’ hut and toilet handles from the women’s toilets at the beach have been removed.

A very special thanks to Herald journalist and Tweni resident Shona Aylward for cleaning up plant pots at the Abingdon R102 intersection last Sunday.

Drinking in public has become a problem again and large groups of youngsters gathered below Jaxx Restaurant, as well as on the corner of Stapleton and Foxon Road last weekend. Thank you to Lazer Security which responded to social media posts and dispersed them.

Chris saves the day

Chris Stapleton of Tweni found a lost wallet last Wednesday morning in the middle of the road on the corner of Sylvan Avenue and Auben Road.

He posted on the Tweni Cares WhatsApp group, complete with the photo of the owner Nikilita Noqhamza, and people immediately recognised him as an employee of Abingdon KwikSpar.

By 9am Chris had dropped the wallet off and when your scribe spoke to Nikilita, he was very grateful to Chris, who ‘simply wanted to do the right thing and make sure it got back to its rightful owner.’
