Margate Moves: Have a spring fling

After supper, it's quiz time at R10 per entrant. It is always loads of fun, and there are some great prizes on offer for the brain-boxes.

BRING out your favourite hat, dolly it up with flowers, and wear it to the `Brain and Braai Evening’ hosted by the Ramsgate Lions’ Club. It takes place at the Community Centre in Glenmarkie Road this Friday (27th).

The fires are ready from 6pm. Take along some meat for the braai – salads are on sale at R30 per person. There are no bar facilities so please take your own, but soft drinks will be on sale.

This month’s event has a spring theme, so look the part and you could win a prize for the best hat.

Rally around

Although it is a small pride, the Lions Club of Ramsgate, is very active on the social scene.

Their next `big’ event is the annual `Car Rally’ which takes place at the community centre next Sunday, October 5 from 12pm.

Entry is R200 per vehicle – a maximum of four people per car. Entrants will get tea/coffee on arrival, and lunch vouchers and soft drinks will be on sale.

Drivers will be given clues and put through their paces in a rally aimed at having fun. For details phone 083 4415586.

Get tested

The Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast will once again hold Family Health Days at the Margate Clinic in Erasmus Road.

The annual campaign, aimed at encouraging families to manage their health, runs from October 2 to 4 from 8am to 4pm.

Free testing for HIV, TB, STIs, diabetes and hypertension, will be offered as well as educational information about immunisation and family planning.

Wonderful music

Lovers of choral music rejoice. The acclaimed Durban Men’s Choir is making a welcome return to Margate. Established in 1971, the choir has been performing all over the province and the country for the past 48 years.

The Residents’ Activities’ Committee at Margate Retirement Village, is delighted to stage the concert at the Azalea Hall, this Sunday (29th) at 2pm for 2.30pm. Take note it is theatre-style seating and bar facilities will be available. Tickets at R50 per person are on sale from either the RAC or admin offices at the village.

A wonderful programme of uplifting songs has been compiled by Ryan Canning, the musical director and the accompanist is Heather Dix.

Good vibe

Ramsgate’s iconic home of music, Rocky Ridge, is hosting an LGBT Party this Friday (27th). Doors and kitchen open at 6pm. Cost is R50 per person.

Gunshot Blue is the headline act at next Saturday’s (5th) gig. The venue will be open from 6pm and the band is on stage from 8pm. Entry is R50 per person.

Floral fantasy

The Alfred County Orchid Society will hold its `Spring Fair’ at the Margate Methodist Church this Friday (27th). For details, contact Monica Marr at 079 1070463.

Shafts play jukskei at Margate Retirement Village on October 17 from 10am.

Ramsgate Community Policing Forum will hold its annual general meeting at the Lions’ Community Hall on Monday, October 21 at 6pm.

Popular country and western singer Clive Bruce will be at Pistol’s Saloon on October 26

Margate Baptist Church will hold a women’s seminar on October 26. Jaci Mun-Gavin is the guest speaker and the seminar is from 9am to midday.

Condolences

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of well-known Margate businessman Richard Plaskitt who died last Saturday. Richard was also a keen golfer and a long-standing member of Margate Country Club.
