Men march against GBV

The march which started at Port Shepstone Nelson Mandela Square wound through the streets of the CBD.

Hundreds of men braved rainy weather and marched against gender-based violence in Port Shepstone recently calling on men to hold each other accountable.

The march was organised by the National Association of Democratic Lawyers and various human rights organisations.

Municipal officials, councillors, attorneys, lawyers, law enforcement officials, Saps members and other men from various professions marched to say men need to protect women and children and call out perpetrators.

The march which started at Port Shepstone Nelson Mandela Square wound through the streets of the CBD.

Chairman of the Port Sheptone Nadel branch, Vusi Zoko urged law enforcement agencies to ensure they protect the rights of rape and abuse victims.

“We need to uphold the law and hold perpetrators accountable for their acts.”

He told the group they would like to see more men denouncing violence.

“Let us challenge other men to become good role models for young boys. Let us build strong family structures and show love to our partners and children,” he said.

Ray Nkonyeni council speaker Doctor Njoko, commended the men for playing their part in trying to curb the scourge of women and child abuse.

He said men needed to play a vital role in the protection of the vulnerable.
