Hibberdene Happenings: Shop for Christmas bargains this Saturday
Please rock up for the jumble sale and support the Lions - it is for a worthy cause.
A FINAL reminder of the jumble/car boot sale to be held at the town hall this coming Saturday, October 5, from early in the morning. Please support this fund-raising effort and come and sell whatever you wish – remember: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Tables, at only R20 each, may be booked with Marie at 082 2935757 – the more, the merrier. DJ Funky (Pieter Laubscher) will be providing the music, so please rock up for the jumble sale and support the Lions – it is for a worthy cause.
Church events
The Methodist men’s breakfast will be held on the same day (October 5). It starts at 7am and at a cost of only R30 per person, the breakfast is guaranteed to provide food, fun and fellowship for all men, no matter what denomination.
Go along for a morning’s entertainment and take a friend or two with. Contact Debbie at the church office at 039 6992948 before Thursday (October 3), should you wish to attend. The church’s annual Youth Service will take place on Sunday, October 20, at 8.30am, while the awards ceremony and prize-giving will be held closer to Christmas.
Another jumble sale top diarise is that of the Methodist Church, scheduled for Saturday, November 30, from 8.30am to 12 noon. The previous two sales were both well supported and it is hoped that this one will be equally successful. So start putting away good second-hand clothing, kitchenware, linen and any bric-a-brac which will help swell the church’s coffers.
Clinic details
Bookings for the next eye clinic on October 16 may be made with your scribe at either 039 6992536 or 073 1653961. Bear in mind that after this month only November’s clinic remains for the year and you will have to wait until next year’s clinic to commence in mid-February.
Olive and John Mett from Middlesborough in the UK, who are spending some time at their holiday home in Leisuredene Village, are heartily welcomed.
Hopefully they will enjoy their stay at their ‘second home’.
Sad tidings
Sadly two deaths occurred in the area recently – Ricky Douglas of Mtwalume and Pat Hoaran of Hibberdene. Ricky was an integral part of Mtwalume and will be sadly missed by his wife Eleanor, sons, daughter and grandchildren, to whom the community’s condolences go. Deepest sympathy also goes to Pat’s wife Elaine, and his sons – both men will be lovingly remembered by many.
Welcome Beanté
Your scribe is pleased to announce that she and Steve have become great-grandparents to another little girl, Beanté, born to grandson Steven Coulson and his wife René at Newcastle Hospital on Friday, September 27 – the same day as Steven’s mom. Beanté was a large baby, weighing in at over 4kg and mother and baby are doing well.
Happy occasions
Birthday wishes are extended to Joey Daniels (2nd), Tabie Jonker (3rd), Norah Swart (6th), Gideon Strydom (7th) and Curly McDuling (8th).
Pupils and staff are wished every success for the fourth school term, which commenced yesterday. With just a little over two months to go, pupils are reminded that if they work hard, they will reap the rewards at the end of the year.
Remember to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
