Talk of the Towns: The other side of the coin
We as the Action Group suggest that as a way forward, a fair voting system should be put in place and the existing committee and constitution should be cancelled.

AS the old saying goes, there are two sides to every story.
The Action Group of the Umkomaas Temple has responded to last week’s column, headed “Umkomaas temple elections postponed”.
The group had this to say:
“There are many members of the temple and public who don’t agree with the report back from the AGM published last week.

Many questioned why having membership forms was such a big issue when people were more worried about getting the temple back in order. There were also several membership forms that were declined with no reason given.
We as the Action Group suggest that as a way forward, a fair voting system should be put in place and the existing committee and constitution should be cancelled.
We would like new members, where membership forms would not be required, and a new committee.
One of the main concerns of the devotees of this temple is the large sum of money spent on legal fees.
Some of the members have pointed out that the public may be unaware that much of these temple funds are used for legal battles among its members. In an attempt to solve these issues, the group has reached out to the Devasthanam Foundation of South Africa for help, which has been received.”
It must also be noted that no reports were given to the public to view at the meeting.
