Service delivery under the spotlight

This was part of the KZN Legislature’s “Taking Legislature to the People” programme.

The main objective of the programme is to allow the Legislature the opportunity to perform oversight on service delivery within the district and to receive feedback from the community.

Last Wednesday, a multi-party delegation visited Malangeni.

Some of the issues raised by the community included basic needs such as sanitation and water services, roads, electricity and housing.

“The fruitful public consultation was followed by a day of site visits where the oversite team was taken through various projects that belong to the district municipality and Umdoni Municipality,” said Umdoni Municipality communications manager, Sphelele Cele.

Projects visited included the Ifafa Glebe Low Cost Housing, Water and Sanitation Project Phase 2c, Malangeni Housing Project Phase 2, Umzinto Sports Field and Youth Centre, Umzinto Slum Clearance, Amahlongwa Rural Housing Project Phase 2 and the Gqolweni Road Construction Phase 2.

Last Friday, the Umdoni council and mayor, Thabani Dube, together with KZN Legislature representatives, led by Thulani Vincent Xulu, visited Umdoni’s project sites.
