At around 1.30pm a vehicle stopped and the driver and his passenger offered the women a lift.
When they arrived at their destination, the women said the passenger got out of the front seat and climbed into the back seat next to them.
“He then asked the driver to hand him a firearm from beneath the passenger seat,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.
The man pointed the firearm at the women and demanded they hand over their belongings.
The women handed over their cellphones, cash, purses and bank cards before being ordered out of the vehicle and instructed to lie face down on the side of the freeway.
“One of the victims managed to memorise the registration number before the vehicle sped off,” said Captain Francis.
On October 24, two suspects, thought to be pastors, were arrested and a firearm confiscated.
Scottburgh Saps station commander, Colonel Ralph Ruiters, commended the Ugu Cluster Detectives, Umzinto K9 Unit, Umkomaas Saps Task Team and the investigating officer, Detective Constable Weidon Govender for their good work in effecting the arrests.
