The carnage on our roads continues unabated, with nine people losing their lives last weekend alone.
Six people died when a minibus taxi and a sugar cane truck collided on the Old St Faith’s Road near Louisiana on Saturday. Port Shepstone police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said six others were hospitalised with serious injuries.

Two killed
A 10-month-old child and a passenger died in a single vehicle crash on the N2 near Hluku on Sunday. Police spokesman, Sergeant Sibu Ncane said three adults and the baby were travelling from Port Shepstone to Harding when the accident occurred.
Taxi flipped
On Monday morning this week 23 children travelling to school in a taxi were injured when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the N2 at Bhobhoyi. According to Craig Botha from Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service, the taxi had flipped onto its side. “Three people were seriously injured while the remaining 20 suffered minor injuries. All were treated at the scene and taken to hospital.” The cause of the accident is not known, and police are investigating.
Three-car pileup
In a separate incident, a truck and trailer, bakkie and taxi collided at Izingolweni. “One person (52) from the truck died in the collision. Two patients suffered critical injuries. One was airlifted to Durban and the other was transported to a local hospital,” said Mr Botha.
Port Edward
Also on Sunday, four people suffered serious injuries after the car in which they were travelling left the road and landed in a ditch. The injured were treated at the scene and taken to hospital.
