Tweni Talk: Residents brace for water woes … again

One consolation is that undrinkable salty water is not being sent into homes causing damage to geysers and other appliances.

Water woes are upon us, most of the coast has run dry. We used to have static tanks in strategic places in and around Umtentweni for people to collect water, but that service seems to be a thing of the past. Messages being filtered back to residents from Ugu makes no mention of water relief by way of tanks or tankers.

One consolation is that undrinkable salty water is not being sent into homes causing damage to geysers and other appliances. Perhaps it’s time for the powers that be to think of desalination.

Shocking incident

Disaster nearly struck last Sunday when a drunk driver travelling along R102 from Port Shepstone towards the Abingdon intersection lost control of his car. He took out a huge pot plant on the island, scattering debris and sand all over the road and came to a stop about 50m further up the road.

Your scribe is thankful that the driver had caused enough damage to his vehicle that it had to be towed away. He could have killed or hurt some pedestrians. His registration is known and it is hoped that he gets a big fine for reckless, negligent driving.

Out and about

Greg Massey had a wonderful experience videoing a beautiful orca whale last Sunday while ski-boating about 10km offshore. People travel all over the world to see these magnificent creatures. Congratulation go to Moira King … yet again. She ran a half marathon from Ilfracombe to Hutchison Park, Amanzimtoti last weekend and says the cloudy skies made for lovely weather and she finished feeling fabulous.

Moira Kind of Umtentweni shows off her medal at last weekend’s half-marathon from Ilfracombe to Amanzimtoti.
