Artist aims to ignite the flame
Louis would like to begin art lessons in Scottburgh for people of all ages as he wishes to spread joy and awaken the artist in everyone.
DURBAN born artist, Louis Geen, now living in Scottburgh, has always had a passion for art.
Although he enjoys music and loves to write, it was through his art that he made a name for himself, and managed to start his own business.

“I can’t recall how old I was when I first began drawing,” he said.
“I just know it was just something that I enjoyed doing and which came naturally, as I have had no training.”
As a young adult, Louis’s parents gave him the same advice parents give their children today – “Get a real job because you can’t do much with art”.
Louis begged to differ, but out of respect for his parents, did an aptitude test and discovered that the best job for him would be a pattern maker.
So that’s what he became.
A short while after landing a job as a design master, he combined his artistic flair with the technical side of things and became a technical illustrator.
After almost a decade of working for various companies, Louis decided that it was time he opened up his own business.
He and Peggy, his late wife, opened Geen Graphics, a technical publication business.
When Peggy became ill and was diagnosed with lung cancer, Louis made the life-changing decision to stay at home and sell everything in order to care for his wife.
Two years ago, some time after Peggy died, Louis moved down to the mid-South Coast and realised that through his drawing, he could find joy again.
“Even after my rough patch, I managed to find pleasure in my art, and I’d like to share this with the Scottburgh folk and put smiles on their faces.”
Louis would like to begin art lessons in Scottburgh for people of all ages as he wishes to spread joy and ignite the artistic flame in everyone.
