New wheels will help school pupils
Deputy Chief Education Specialist Sifiso Dlamini stated that every child deserves to go to school.
Senior phase pupils from six high schools within the Ugu district recently received bicycles from the Kwazulu Natal Department of Basic Education to assist them in getting to school.

At the handover of the 56 bicycles to the pupils from Ntabalukhozi, Sizathina, Mgamule, Ukufakwakhe, Dalusizo and Mabiya high schools, deputy chief education specialist Sifiso Dlamini, of The Department of Education Ugu District Office said scholar transport is insufficient in the Ugu district.
“Due to historic human settlement patterns, many pupils have to travel long distances to get to school. The problem is further exacerbated in deep rural areas as the public transport infrastructure is grossly inadequate. Every child deserves to go to school and the department’s bicycle project goes a long way in fulfilling this dream for children.”
The department also provides free transport to approximately 4200 learners from 21 schools in the Ugu district. This is done per the National Policy on scholar transport that seeks to provide relief for those travelling the longest distances to the nearest school.
