The man who attacked, robbed and raped a 23-year-old woman on her way home from work on January 2 2018 was last Thursday sentenced in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court.
Wele Mqondisi Hadebe of Bhobhoyi was sentenced to an effective 27 years in prison.

He will serve 12 years for robbery and 15 years for rape. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The woman had just alighted from a taxi in Bhobhoyi and was on her way home when she was accosted by Hadebe who was armed with a knife.
After robbing her of cash and her cellphone, he raped her and fled.
“The Saps will continue to prioritise cases involving women and children, and will aim for the harshest sentences to be imposed on sexual offenders who prey on
the most vulnerable members of society,” said Ugu Cluster commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele.
Detective Sergeant Beatus Cele of the Family Violence Child and Sexual offences Unit in Port Shepstone was the investigating officer.
