Well-known Margate motor-sport legend, Trevor Mountford, has been diagnosed with a serious illness and needs urgent treatment in Durban. To assist the family with his medical costs a fund-raiser will be held next weekend.

The Trevor Mountford Benefit Ride for both off-road and adventure bikes starts at Grace Brick ’n Block on Izotsha Road, on Saturday, December 14. Registration is from 7am, followed by a briefing at 8am. The cost is R200 per biker.

Shop for those unusual and special gifts at Southbroom Tennis Club’s traditional Christmas Market at Eyles Park in Captain Smith Road on Sunday, December 15 from 4.30pm. There will be a variety of stalls offering festive treats, a children’s play area, music and lighting of the tree.

Deepest sympathy
Condolences to family, friends and patients of Dr John Stewart from Southbroom who died recently. For almost 20 years Frans and Elvira Boom fled the cold weather in Holland to their Ramsgate home where they would stay for a few months. Sadly, Frans took ill earlier this year and after a brave fight died in Utrecht last Saturday. Deepest sympathy to Elvira, their sons Kelly and Dennis, family and friends.

Seven months after the entrance to Margate was washed away, work began just over a week ago to repair the road. Hopefully, it will be completed in time for the anticipated arrival of up-country visitors. Is it too much to expect that the bridges with big chunks of missing railings will be fixed as well?
