Umtamvuna Views: Local lass Jessica enthralls with solo performance

The ever-popular Hibiscus Choir were invited by Banners Rest Village to perform their ‘Christmas Bells’ medleys last Saturday. About 50 residents sang along and thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Talented young singer, Jessica du Toit (17), who lives in Leisure Bay and attends Port Shepstone High, gave a beautiful solo performance. She is a member of the KZN Youth Choir and Hibiscus Choir raises money through shows which aids aspiring young local musicians. It was an inspirational start to the festive season.

Two young women who lived in Port Edward are making their mark in the film industry. Jodi Balfour (granddaughter of Anne and Peter Smythe), who relocated with her family in the early 90s and Nikki Wichmann (younger daughter of Edgar and the late Lyn Wichmann) whose family still resides in Port Edward.

There is a new streaming network called Apple TV Plus that has just launched. Nikki is an associate producer for the signature series ‘SEE’. Jodi is lead actress in the series entitled ‘For All Mankind’ and previously starred in the very popular Netflix series ‘The Crown’, where she plays the role of Jackie Kennedy. They are both currently on set in North America.

Southbroom Tennis Club invites everyone to pop into its Traditional Christmas Market at the club this coming Sunday, December 15, from 4.30pm till late. Contact Sylvia at 082 8945153 to find out more.

There will be a Christmas morning market at the Methodist Church hall on December 21 from 8am to 12 noon. Come and find some interesting Christmas gifts or enjoy breakfast, pancakes, tea and coffee, while browsing arts, crafts, and lots more.

A few months ago, well known saxophonist Jerry Kunene enthralled the audience gathered in groups on the grass near the Trafalgar lifesavers’ hut. His gravelly voice and silky smooth playing was just beautiful.

Jerry will perform on Saturday, December 21, and everyone is invited (weather permitting) from 4.30pm.

This is a fund-raiser for the LSC SPCA, so please bring along animal food, blankets or donations. Also bring chairs, friends and a snack pack. For more information contact your scribe at the supplied number.

It is important for the community to know in-depth what organisations do and to meet those volunteers who give of their time for the benefit of our community, so do diarise the following important AGMs:

1 Leisure Bay Ratepayers’ Association: Tuesday, December 17 at 5pm;

2 Leisure Bay Conservancy: immediately after the ratepayers’ meeting and both will be held at the Civic Centre at the top of Fisherman’s Drive, with a braai afterwards, hosted by the ratepayers.

3 Leisure Bay Neighborhood Watch: Thursday, December 19 at 5pm at TO Strand resort.

Help raise funds by attending the fascinating talk and live demo by Terence from Pure Venom hosted by Trafalgar Conservancy Group in the Anglican Church hall on Tuesday, December 17, at 2pm. Adults pay R30 and children R20. For more information, contact Colin at 083 2281275.

Join the Trafalgar Conservancy for a fun, relaxing walk through the beautiful village of Trafalgar on Sunday, December 22, at 8am. There is an entrance fee of R20 and delicious breakfast wraps will be available for R30.
