NSRI rescues men stranded offshore on jet-ski in Southbroom
If you would like to become a NSRI volunteer, attend Station 20 Shelly Beach's open day on October 24 at 10:00.
Two men were safely brought ashore after their disabled jet-ski drifted about 4.5km offshore of Southbroom Beach on October 16.
NSRI Shelly Beach Station 20 commander Glen Preston said the duty crew was called to help the men, whose jet-ski had a suspected mechanical or electrical failure.
The men initially reported being about 1km offshore of Ramsgate.
The crew launched the rescue craft Spirit of Dawn from Station 20 and located the men 4.5km offshore of Southbroom Beach.
They were safe but unable to restart the jet-ski’s engine.
The crew towed them to Ramsgate Beach without incident. Once ashore, the men recovered their jet-ski, and the rescue craft returned to base.
Station 20 Shelly Beach will host an open day on October 24 at 10:00, inviting prospective volunteers to meet the crew and learn how to get involved in sea rescue.
The event will take place at Albert Meyer Drive, Shelly Beach.
