Tweni Talk: Be ‘crimewise’ this festive season
Thieves are “fishing” through open windows using long poles with makeshift baskets on the end, trying to scoop anything of value, be it keys bags or phones.
The ‘silly season’ is upon us again. Crime wise, please be extra alert. If having a party ensure that windows and doors in unused rooms of the house are well-locked against intruders.
Fishing for valuables
Thieves are “fishing” through open windows using long poles with makeshift baskets on the end, trying to scoop anything of value, be it keys bags or phones. Most times they don’t even bring their own poles but find something in your yard to make do with. If you have holiday guests please warn them. A huge thank you to all security service providers, CPF, Saps, law enforcement officers and the concerned citizens of Tweni Crime Watch, who are doing their best to keep crime off our streets and out of our yards.

Do remember, however, that the responsibility rests with you to ensure you don’t leave your garage doors and gates open, lock moveable property away, and if you buy any expensive item such as a TV, you don’t throw the box out on the kerb advertising the new purchase for your home. Also, teach children to park their bikes in the garage after riding on them, as after all, safer communities start with us.

Thoughts and prayers
Some sad news for the van Loggenberg family. Ernst who was car guarding at Tweni Spar, fell and ended up in hospital, his lungs collapsed and he passed away on Friday, December 13, missing his son’s wedding which took place the following day. Sincere condolences to the family.
To anyone who is sick at this time of year, your scribe wishes you a speedy recovery, if alone over the season, reach out to friends and neighbours. A hello, and a smile does wonders.

Happy birthday to all celebrating their birthdays. Gerhard Prinsloo on the 20th and Nathan Polinski on the 24th are wished all the best.
