Senior citizens connect at a get-together in Marburg
Lighthouse Community Services is an active non-profit organisation that truly 'adds light' to local communities.
Community groups and organisations frequently organise lunches and game sessions for senior citizens to promote social interaction, combat isolation, and foster a sense of belonging. These initiatives are usually run by volunteers, local charities, or community centres.
One such organisation is Lighthouse Community Services of Port Shepstone. Headed by chairperson Sunil Singh, it aims to improve the mental and physical well-being of seniors to keep them active and connected to their communities.
These gatherings at the Marburg Community Policing Forum hall, near the Marburg grounds, provide a nutritious meal and a chance to socialise.

According to Sunil, local businesses donate food and resources, highlighting a community-wide effort to support older residents.
“We believe that strong community ties can recreate that sense of belonging, purpose and joy in life. More than just socialising, it’s about fostering meaningful connections, encouraging active participation, and ensuring that every older person feels valued and supported.”
Lighthouse Community Services holds discourses every second Saturday at the Marburg CPF hall at 10:00. For further information, contact Sunil Singh on 084-250-2263.
