My Take: The need for aircon when you ‘just can’t’
The venue last year gave one an idea of what a potato, covered in foil, must feel like during the baking process.
Endurance is a key ingredient to earning your parenting stripes.
The ability to successfully sit through a recent 30-hour music recital put this very much to the test.
Okay, it was three hours, but at times it felt longer. Much longer.

My young son surprised me no end when he announced 18 months ago that he wanted to learn to play the guitar.
At best, I’m tone deaf. His mom can (apparently) sing a bit, but we’ve never tried to play an instrument.
“Sure, why not?” I said. Alas, I hadn’t factored in the year-end gig.

It was a blazing hot summer day and inside was even hotter.
December is the season for such concerts and the like.
To the music teacher’s immense credit the venue was changed this year.
It was further to drive for most, but there was beautiful, blissful, blessed, life-giving, mood-enhancing air conditioning.
December is sometimes dubbed the silly season, partly because folk get a little frazzled in the heat.
The concert was a bit on the long side, I won’t lie.
Without the aircon there would have been a riot or a medical incident because again, it was very hot.
My very tired wife was ready to go home after an hour.
Personally, I was enjoying the cool air and a time of just doing nothing for a while.
I tried the argument, a mathematical one to encourage her: 3 hours into 365 days x 24 hours is really not too much to ask is it? She failed to see the funny side.
Which brings us to the holidays… enjoy some time doing nothing but relaxing.
We all know the rest of life can be hard and stressful.
So, have a wonderful festive season and see you again in the new year.
