Beaches declared safe for swimming
Bathing beaches and swimming pools will be manned by lifeguards from 7am to 6pm throughout the festive season.
The coast’s beaches and popular lagoons are safe for swimming and/or recreational activities.
Simon April, spokesman for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, said that while bathing and swimming in lagoons was not encouraged, there were no signs that the water was contaminated or the quality compromised.

“Of our 21 bathing beaches, seven have Blue Flag status – Marina Beach, Trafalgar, Lucien, Southport, Umzumbe, Hibberdene and Ramsgate.”
He added that bathing beaches and swimming pools would be manned by lifeguards from 7am to 6pm throughout the festive season to ensure the safety of bathers.
It was however vitally important, he said, that all beachgoers cooperate with the lifeguards, swim within identified areas and avoid going into the water while under the influence of alcohol.
