Trail walks, beach fun and singing in Southbroom

The committee has done some great things this summer holiday.

The first official Southbroom Conservancy Holiday Programme proved to be a major highlight for visitors to the area this holiday.

The programme included guided trail walks (with Anne Skelton and Dave Halle), a beach colour bash (co-hosted with the Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast), a geology beach ramble (with Paddy Norman) and a heritage walk (with local historian and author Libby Cochrane).

Carols in the Park, first organised by Dawne Murray seven years ago has become somewhat of an anticipated yuletide celebration.

Dave Hallé and Dawne Murray have played in a key role in the Southbroom Conservancy’s events during the holidays.

By staging a few diverse and informational events with a conservation aspect, that of sharing our knowledge, history, flora and fauna, the committee set out to attract both residents and holiday-makers.

Through these activities, folk have revelled in the fun and learning and the conservancy has created the opportunity of highlighting the care-taking required to ensure that the small sanctuaries and the green lungs which are home to a variety of creatures and indigenous plants, are protected.

It is this natural bounty, which enhances and adds to the attraction of, not only Southbroom, but its adjoining areas, that the conservancy and those of neighbouring towns are striving to nurture.
