Back to School: Give children a good start
A good breakfast sets your child up for the day.
CHILDREN perform better in the classroom when they’re not hungry.
Skipping breakfast puts your children at risk of running out of energy before the lunch break. Food provides pep to keep them going.

Healthy breakfasts are by no means boring. A healthy breakfast should include protein such as meats, eggs, beans and dairy, together with wholewheat breads and cereals for fibre.
A nutritious breakfast might consist of a bowl of wholegrain cereal, an egg with a slice of wholewheat toast with an apple or orange to finish. If the children don’t finish, just pack them something for the short break to keep them going and their minds focused on their schoolwork instead of their stomachs.
Try something different every day. Baked beans on wholewheat toast always goes down well. This gives them fibre.
Smoothies with their favourite fruit, are also nutritiously delicious as the milk contains calcium, vitamin B12, zinc and magnesium.
You could also give them yogurt and muesli. Bran muffins are also popular and they’re great for lunch box treats.
For those children who don’t like butter; offer them peanut butter which is tasty and full of essential fatty acids.
Give them brain food to kick-start their day and maximise their mental potential.
