RNM honours top performing matric pupils

Pupils received a book voucher worth R500, certificates and 12 months worth of data from Vodacom.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality honoured top-achieving matriculants within the municipality at an awards ceremony recently.

The annual event took place at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre where the ‘Class of 2019’ gathered with family and teachers to be awarded certificates and tokens for the high marks they obtained in their final matric examinations.

Pupils received a book voucher worth R500, certificates and 12 months worth of data from Vodacom.

Speaking at the event, mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu congratulated the different stakeholders in reaching the 86.3 percent pass rate in the district saying that, “If it were not for the parents, principals, school governing bodies, teachers and pupils we would not have been placed top in the province.”

She said it was vital to award pupils who had flown the municipality flag high and encouraged them to excel in their careers of choice.

Sayidi circuit manager, Ronald Wood said he was very proud of how the district had performed last year.

“It’s a great pleasure to be standing here surrounded by pupils who are part of this pass rate. Well done all of you. The pass rate in the district has improved tremendously, from the previous year.”

Deon Davey of St Martin De Porres was delighted to receive awards for his school which received a hundred percent pass rate.

Messages of support were delivered by representatives from various organisations such as Vodacom.

Sinelisiwe Matubatuba, of Margate Middle School who was placed second in the district, said she was looking forward to studying medicine at the University of Cape Town.

Teachers whose schools had achieved a hundred percent pass rate said some of their colleagues had worked tirelessly during holidays and weekends to secure this pass rate.
