RNM’s chief financial officer moves on

Insiders claim Ms Gqola's resignation comes after her refusal to bow to pressure from those at the helm.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s chief financial officer, Nolubabalo Gqola has resigned.

Ms Gqola, who is currently serving her notice, will leave mid-February, the municipality confirmed.

The CFO’s resignation follows that of asset manager Vuyani Kopo who called it quits in November after 13 years to pursue an external opportunity.

Insiders claim Ms Gqola’s resignation comes after her refusal to bow to pressure from those at the helm.

“We all know she was a victim, she was bullied and some people just didn’t like her so they said she was not performing well,” claimed one.

IFP leader Sfundo Ngwane said the party was shocked at the resignation as they were still waiting for a report from municipal manager Max Mbili on submissions made to council last year.

“We have not been made aware of her resignation. Despite being on recess, the municipality has a duty to inform us if a person who holds such a critical position resigns.”

He added that it was “very concerning” that CFOs at several South Coast municipalities had resigned.

“This clearly tells you that either they are being forced to resign or they refuse to bow to certain principals with ulterior motives within the municipality.”

The IFP called for an investigation to be conducted into all heads of department at RNM in order to establish if they were performing well and were fit to hold their positions.

“We have noticed that because of their connections, some heads of department who perform poorly are just moved to other departments instead of being released from their duties.”

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesman Simon April said, “Yes, I can confirm that Ms Gqola, who joined the municipality in July 2015, has resigned.

“We are unable to give reasons for her resignation due to employer/employee confidentiality.”

Attempts to contact Ms Gqola for comment were unsuccessful.
