PENNINGTON’S Chris-Tiaan Nortje (11) is a good example of why many South Africans say #ImStaying.

Earlier this month, the young lad was shopping with family in Scottburgh when he came across an elderly woman, also doing her shopping.

Chris-Tiaan’s grandmother, Charlotte Coetzee, posted the rest of the story on the #ImStaying Facebook page:

“The older lady was looking at some meaty bones (more bones than meat). She took one pack, looked at the price and returned it to the shelf.

“Chris-Tiaan told her to follow us to the deli section, where he chose a grilled chicken, 12 bread rolls and a 2 litre cold drink.

“I kept quiet and waited to see what he planned to do. He then took 36 eggs and gave all the groceries to the woman.

“He opened his wallet, removed his pocket money and told the lady at the till point that he would pay for the items.

“He also took a big tub of his own yoghurt from our trolley and gave it to elderly woman, telling her that she and her family should enjoy their meal. I asked him why he did it and he said that he is fortunate to have food everyday, and that she deserved more than just bones.”

This heartwarming story was posted on January 11 and is gathering more attention by the day.

At the beginning of this week, the post had already received 74 000 reactions and more than 6 000 shares.

Thousands of people have added comments, thanking him for his kindness and praising him for bringing some positivity to a negative world.

Many will recognise Chris-Tiaan as the face behind the distribution and planting of hundreds of spekboom to help fight global warming.
