Park Rynie RTI nabs drunk motorist

He believed he was on his way back to his hotel in Umhlanga, instead he had driven 80km.

RTI Park Rynie arrested a motorist for drunk driving, who allegedly left his hotel room in Umhlanga to buy KFC, but ended up driving 80km.

The motorist from Limpopo was spotted weaving dangerously between lanes on the N2 near the Park Rynie RTI precinct, where he was stopped on June 25 at about 08:30.

He told officers that he was on his way back to the hotel, but got lost and ended up driving 80km, heading towards Port Shepstone.

MEC Siboniso Duma commends the no-nonsense Park Rynie RTI team.

MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma said that despite RTI informing him that he was driving in a southerly direction, he insisted that he was driving north.

“If RTI had failed to remove him from the road, his erratic driving would have resulted in a head-on collision, a rear-end crash, or a sideswipe – with the loss of innocent lives,” said Duma.

“We have in the past witnessed eight to 10 family members being wiped out in horrific road accidents along the N2. These were caused by motorists driving under the influence of alcohol.”

The motorist will appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court soon.
