Protests over slow progress at Masinenge housing project

The road is open to traffic.

Residents of the Masinenge informal settlement are protesting over housing issues this morning (Wednesday, January 29).

According to municipal spokesman, Simon April, officials from the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and the Department of Human Settlements are on site to address protesters.

“Residents want to know when the housing project will resume. The contractor is on-site and plans are to start building 298 houses from Monday, February 3,” said Mr April.

The Masinenge slum clearance project was launched by Human Settlements MEC Ravi Pillay and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality in 2013 when the construction site was handed over.
