New champ for South Coast bass club

The new committee is wished much success for the year ahead.

Fritz de Wit made a clean sweep of the South Coast Bass Club awards for the year, with the AGM and prizegiving being held at Glenmore Ski-boat Club.

After being the reigning champion for seven years, Boet Stewart was eventually toppled from his throne.

Fritz was crowned the overall club champion for 2026 and also won the heaviest bag, taking home first and second prizes for the biggest fish.

The biggest fish was caught at the last club fish-off of the season and weighed in at 2.6kg.

Boet, also known as Kokorotkop, came second overall and also landed up second in the heaviest bag category.

Thys Hoffman presents Freek Stander with life membership of the South Coast Bass Club. Freek has taken over the reins as chairman from Thys, who held the position for more than 30 years.

Freek Stander won the ‘most dedicated’, Julian Lang the ‘most improved’ and ‘poephol’s prize’ with Tony Geerdink receiving the ‘blanker’ prize.

Thys Hoffman stepped down as chairman after running the club for more than 30 years, but is not lost to the club and will remain as treasurer.

Freek was elected new chairman and also weigh-master. Vice-chairman is Julian Lang and Rory Bezuidenhout the secretary.

Freek was awarded life membership in honour of him achieving his Protea colours for rock and surf angling.

The members and spouses enjoyed a delicious braai after the official business had been taken care of.
