Hibberdene Happenings: Clinics are busy clearing backlogs

Please be patient and don’t expect to be helped immediately.

There has been quite a bit of crime in Hibberdene recently and in some instances the culprits were armed. Please be on the alert at all times, keep doors locked and do not take unnecessary chances. Report any suspicious persons or happenings to your nearest police station or alert your security firm.

Dental and eye clinics recommence this month, with the first visit by the optometrist scheduled for February 19. Unfortunately both clinics are fully booked up for quite a while as there is something of a backlog from the end of last year, so please be patient and don’t expect to be helped immediately. Bookings for the dental clinic must be made with Marie at 082 2935757 and eyes with your scribe at 073 1653961 or 039 6992536.

Eric Mack was the guest speaker at last Saturday’s monthly Methodist men’s breakfast. Eric, who is well-known in the area and has been blind for many years, gave a very inspirational address, which was enjoyed by all present. The next breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at 7am.

A St Valentine’s Day tea will be held at the church on Thursday, February 13, at 9am. Men, as well as women, are invited and, if last year’s tea is anything to go by, a bumper and appreciative crowd can be expected. A plate of eats would be most welcome.

The Methodist Sunday School has seen an increase in teachers and grateful thanks are extended to Judy Hoyer and Di Preiss, who have volunteered to share the duties with present teachers Jill Bylett and Colleen Gillham. All four are thanked for their service and dedication.

Remember to have your pets inoculated against rabies at the library on Wednesday, February 19, from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

Please take advantage of this free service offered by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Vaccinations will also be given in surrounding areas on the days leading up to and after the 19th, should you be unable to get to Hibberdene on the day.

Delaine Goliath continues to struggle with her broken arm, while Vaughan Friedenthal is recovering in Netcare Margate Hospital after undergoing stomach surgery. Steve Coulson had an altercation with a concrete table and is suffering from a severely infected right leg, causing him much pain.

Your scribe had a good week, receiving not only a belated birthday gift, but also Christmas gifts from her sister and family, whom she’d been unable to see over the festive season, but who had travelled to spend the weekend in Scottburgh. It was a real treat.

Birthday greetings this week go to Louis Nortjé and René Calitz (5th), Mathembe Linda (7th), the irrepressible Pauline Howle, Meisie Smit and Martha de Lange (8th), Lindy Gumley (9th), Molly Hillman, Reverend Alan Wright and Amanda Mbele (10th) and Flip Barnard (11th).

Plastic bread sealers continue to be dropped off at the clinic and your scribe is extremely grateful for every donation, be it large or small. They may be left at the clinic on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

Don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
