Margate police make 42 drug-related arrests in January
Margate Police Station, recently voted the second-best in the country, became concerned by recurring drug-related complaints from residents and decided to take concrete action.
Margate police made 42 arrests in connection with drug-related crimes during January.
Of those arrests, 20 were made in Margate CBD and the remainder in Gcilima, Masinenge and Uvongo.

According to Margate Saps spokesman, Sergeant Sibu Ncane, cases ranged from dealing in and being in possession of drugs including cocaine, heroin, Mandrax and dagga.

A task team was formed and a combination of strategies were put in place which ultimately led to the arrests.
“Substance abuse is a social problem and it needs all role players in communities to assist the police.
“We need the assistance of residents, churches, CPFs as well as the judiciary and other departments like social development in combating this scourge,” said Sgt Ncane.
Margate Saps urged the public to not keep quiet as drugs were destroying many young people’s lives and futures.
“We hope to see the courts hand down hefty sentences for the perpetrators,” he added.
