Umtamvuna Views: Cheryl sadly loses the battle

She was always helpful with a ready smile and will be sadly missed by her work colleagues and many friends.

Cheryl Lupke (55) sadly died last Wednesday, February 19th. Cheryl lived in Port Edward and was well respected by the community. She had lived and worked in Munster for many years and then moved to Port Edward and worked for Build-It for the past 10 years.

She had been undergoing cancer treatment in Durban and was staying over with her only daughter Leonell, who went to check on her mother and found her dead last Wednesday morning. Cheryl was always helpful with a ready smile and will be sadly missed by her work colleagues and many friends. She leaves her daughter and two sons.

Maggie Abbott of Clearwater Farm is thrilled to have all her children around her for a while. Her eldest daughter Fiona Pringle lives in Brisbane, Australia, with her family. She came out to South Africa to take part in the famous Argus Cycle Challenge in Cape Town.

Fiona will also spend a few weeks in Port Edward catching up with her mum and siblings who all live locally.

Port Edward Bowling Club will host a ‘Tabs for CANSA’ fund-raiser this coming Saturday (29th). Teams will be drawn, so come along before 1.30pm, dressed in ‘a touch of pink’. Pancakes will be on sale and all entry fees will be donated to CANSA. For queries contact Pauline at 083 4140200.

It is leap year this year so we will all gain a day for nothing and won’t see another January 29 for another four years. Do something special and outrageous this Saturday. Treat yourself or somebody special. Whatever you do, have fun, life is too short to miss any opportunity to smile.
