Hibberdene Happenings: Load-shedding impacts on clinic bookings
There are more than 30 patients awaiting appointments.
More load-shedding throughout the week, compounded by no water last Sunday! Really! The faulty transformer in town resulted in last Wednesday’s eye clinic having to be cancelled and the situation is now becoming serious. Your scribe has a waiting list of in excess of 30 patients awaiting appointments and, with no more than 10 able to be seen per month, as well as bookings continuing to be made, the problem seems endless.

Considering the inclement weather, rabies inoculations went off reasonably well. Many dogs and cats, most well-behaved, and their owners descended on the town hall last Wednesday, but because of the rain, activities had to be moved to the small verandah at the entrance to the hall. This in turn made it difficult for people to collect their medication and push their way though the waiting animals.
It has been a very sad week for Hibberdene with three deaths occurring within a few days, two of them at Hibberdene River Resort. Cliff Lott died recently and was remembered at a service in the resort’s garden on Thursday last week. Deepest sympathy goes to his wife Leslie, children and friends.
Charlie Smith died last Saturday night and condolences go to his wife Margrit, family and friends. The date and time of Charlie’s funeral arrangements had not yet been announced at the time of writing this column.
Angie McDonald’s death last week has left the community in a state of shock and she will be sadly missed by many. A well-attended remembrance service was held in the Methodist Church last Saturday morning when a special, moving tribute was paid to Angie by ambulances and paramedics with whom she used to work. She will be remembered by the McDonald family and her children Bianca, Jorge and Gabriella.
Don’t forget to meet up with your friends for a morning of entertainment and fun at Koelwaters Resort in Mtwalume this coming Saturday (29th) from 9 am. Several stalls will be in operation and a great time is guaranteed for all.
An added bonus will be the music of Andy Els, which will keep fairgoers fully entertained.
Reverend Anneli Mei will be ordained into the ministry during a special service to be held at the Methodist Church this coming Sunday (March 1) at 8.30am. The bishop and the superintendent will be in attendance, plus other dignitaries, so it is an important day. A good attendance will be appreciated, as will a plate of eats for tea after the service.
Women of all denominations are invited to attend the Women’s World Day of Prayer service which will be jointly-hosted by the NG and Methodist churches at the Methodist Church on Friday, March 6 at 9am. On this day, women worldwide gather in praise and worship and it is hoped the attendance will be good. Once again, a plate of eats will be most welcome.
The men’s breakfast takes place the following morning, Saturday, March 7 at 7am at a cost of R30 per person. Book early with Debbie at 039 6992948 to be assured a place. Lastly, the church offers Bible-based teaching in the Sunday School groups which meet on Sundays at 8.30am. Young people between the ages of three and 12 years are warmly invited to attend and they may once again contact Debbie at 039 6992948.
Celebrating birthdays this week are Errol Koekemoer (25th), Lynn Webster and Leon Eicker (26th), Judy Hoyer (28th), Jan Oosthuizen (March 2) and Sham Jagaroo and Robert Arkley (3rd), while Pat and Kobus Oosthuizen celebrate an anniversary on March 3.
Remember to keep Lizzie busy with all things Hibberdene.
