Margate Moves: Peddy and Eric leave a lasting legacy
Eric Doucha and Peddy Bam will both be remembered for their contributions to the South Coast community.
South Coasters were saddened to hear about the death of Eric Doucha (69) this week after a short illness.
He was a very popular, charismatic man who added spark to the lives of those around him.
A larger than life personality, Eric was very often the life and soul of any party or gathering.

Over the years, his name became synonymous with Sebenza Village nursery.
Eric had a zest for life, enjoying any adventure that came his way.
This was borne out in how he described himself as ‘the youngest pensioner on the coast’.
He loved nothing better than to be out riding on his motorbike, bicycle and of course, enjoying the occasional game of golf.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and thoughts are with his children Lara, Wayne and Lenny-Dee.

* South Coasters were also sad to hear about the death of Peddy Bam (81) recently.
Peddy was a prominent farmer in the Ixopo area for many years, but loved coming to Southbroom, where the family had a holiday home.
It made sense then, after many years of holidays on the coast, to retire to the area in 2008.
Peddy was a member and honorary officer of the Southbroom Conservancy.
He was ever the gentleman and often the voice of reason when debates about the environment raged.
A true environmentalist, he understood the role that each species plays in the interlocking cogs of a truly healthy ecosystem.
Peddy also served as chairman of the Southbroom Tennis Club.
He is survived by Helen, and their four children Haydn, Belinda Natali, Jenny Moore and Kerrin McLuckie..
* Barry Smit, chairman of the Margate Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association said the information evening regarding the creation of a SRA (Special Rates Area) for the town last Wednesday had gone well.

The idea, he said, was to create funds which could be specifically used for the safety, security and maintenance of the town.
Senior journalist Jenni Bipat attended the meeting – see her report in tomorrow’s Herald.
* The Rocking Against Cruelty concert will take place at Rocky Ridge in Ramsgate this Saturday (29th).
Entry is free and all proceeds from the evening will go to the SPCA.
Bands playing on the evening are No Refund, BJ Pretorius, Braxton Hix, DJ Garth, Chewing the Hornet and Hate Speech.
