Hibberdene Happenings: Church to host women’s day of prayer

Jointly hosted by the NG and Methodist women, the service will be held at the Methodist Church in Hibberdene.

It was the second consecutive weekend without water, which is really a bit much. Hopefully supply will be restored as soon as possible.

A large crowd of worshippers and visiting dignitaries, some from afar afield as Pietermaritzburg attended the induction service of Reverend Anneli Mey at the Methodist Church last Sunday. Water must have been begged or borrowed from somewhere, as a scrumptious tea was served after the service – something that the Methodist women are really good at.

Women of all denominations are invited to attend the Women’s World Day of Prayer service on the first Friday in March (this coming Friday, March 6) at 9am. The day will be celebrated worldwide and the Hibberdene service, jointly hosted by the NG and Methodist women, will be held at the Methodist Church.

The following day, Saturday, March 7, will see this month’s men’s breakfast taking place at the church at 7am at a cost of R30 per person. The men fellowship together once a month over a wholesome breakfast and normally a visiting speaker is included. The breakfasts are not to be missed and places should be booked with Debbie at the church office at 039 6992948 before it is too late.

Remember to carry on sorting out second-hand goods for the giant jumble/rummage sale to be held at the church on Saturday, March 28, between 8.30am and 12 noon. Books, pre-owned clothing and household goods and linen are always in demand, so please take along whatever you can.

Unfortunately Mtwalume’s flea and craft market scheduled for last weekend had to be postponed due to Friday’s inclement weather, which left the venue somewhat waterlogged. It is such a pity because seven new stallholders had booked to exhibit. It will however be held this coming Saturday (March 7) and a good attendance is expected. Andy Els will once again provide the music, which is always enjoyed by fairgoers.

Phyllis Michaelis has moved from her home in Hibberdene and is now staying with her son Norman and his wife Sarah in Boksburg, Gauteng.

She was finding it increasingly difficult to negotiate her way around the house, but it is hoped that she keeps well and returns for visits every now and again.

Her neighbour Barry Guppy also left Hibberdene during the week and will shortly be moving to the UK where his 93-year-old mom and his sister live. Both will be sorely missed and are wished well for the future.

Dalaine Goliath had another nasty fall at home injuring the same arm she broke in a previous fall a couple of weeks ago. Thoughts are with her for the surgery she is due to undergo this week.

Mike Hoyer celebrates his 95th birthday on March 7 and is wished all the best for a very happy day and many more. Also celebrating this week are Jenni Defilippi, Felicity Govender and Ian Davids (6th), Ben Rossouw and Darryl Hattingh (7th), Hannelie Leisegang, Arlene Caelers and Freda Tempel (8th), Pat Oosthuizen and Sunay Bothma (9th) and Barbara Porteous, Elise Smith, Edna Yeldham, Chantel Oosthuizen and Doris Rodd (10th).

Happy anniversary to Nicky and Marc Lilje (4th), Sylvia and Martin Rautenbach and Lynette and Rob James (5th), and Dennyl and Richard Cole on March 10. Don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
