Port Edward farmer Derek dies at 88
Family friend Pastor John Pretorius said Derek will be missed in the farming community of Port Edward.
Derek Morris (88) of Port Edward died on February 21 after a long illness.
Derek, a well-known and respected member of the Port Edward farming community, was born in East London on September 9, 1931, and grew up on a farm in the Katberg area.

He matriculated from Grey High in Port Elizabeth and thereafter worked on various farms in Zululand before taking up farming in the Natal midlands.
Derek had a great love for agriculture and was the agricultural manager at Craigieburn Estates before retiring to be a banana farmer in Port Edward.

He and the late Gordon Harrison, also of Port Edward, were firm friends and would often take off for a spot of fishing.
“His favourite place and hobby would be to go off with his friend Gordon to the cottage at Umtata River mouth to indulge his passion for fishing and be at one with nature,” said his daughter Tracey Morris.
Gordon’s son John said “Derek was greatly admired and a meticulous farmer. He genuinely cared for his staff and will be sorely missed.”

“He was a well-known and respected figure in our community with a passion for nature and fishing.”
Derek leaves his wife Pam and their only daughter Tracey.
