Sheppie Snippets: Coronavirus – More temples cancel prayers

The public is encouraged to observe festivals at home.

More temples have closed their doors and cancelled festivals due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Also, the government has clamped down on gatherings of more than 100 people.

Vel Murugan Temple at 43 Swallow Road, Marburg has cancelled its April kavady festival because of Covid-19.

Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Temple will also be closed until further notice.

In keeping up with the government’s call of declaring the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus a national disaster as well as recommendations from the South African Hindu Maha Sabha, the Umbango Temple has put measures in place.

All prayer festivals and activities are postponed until further notice.

This includes the annual jhunda prayers, Hanuman Jayanthi and Good Friday prayers.

The Monday service is also postponed until further notice.

Members and devotees are encouraged to observe the upcoming prayer festivals at their homes and continue to pray for God’s guidance.

The Shree Mariamman Temple of Port Shepstone has cancelled its Good Friday prayer on Friday, April 10.

According to a statement from the temple this is in keeping with the directive issued by the government due to the virus.

Although the temple will remain open, entry will be limited.

The Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir of Port Shepstone will also be closed until further notice.

For all upcoming prayer festivals, the public is urged to perform the prayer at their home.

Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society will also be closed due to the coronavirus. The temple had planned to observe Ramayan Week, Raam Naumi and Hanuman Jayanthi.

However, all prayers and festivals will be suspended until further notice.

Devotees are encouraged to observe the prayers at their homes.
