NSRI fully operational during Covid-19 shutdown

It will be business as usual for the dedicated teams during the lockdown.

The National Sea Rescue Institute will remain fully operational and in service to respond to emergencies during the Covid-19 lockdown,

Its emergency number – 112 – can be dialed from any cellphone.

Locally, the Port Edward base can be reached at 082 990 5951, and Shelly Beach at 082 990 5950.

NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon said all precautions and protocols as directed by the Department of Health were being adhered to during rescue operations, and included operations involving patient evacuations off ships.

As a non-profit organisation which relies on public funding, the NSRI appeals to everyone to visit their website: www.nsri.org.za and to make a donation – however small – to help keep them afloat.

“We need to ensure that we can continue to respond to emergencies at sea, on inland waters and in our support of land-based emergency services, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
